#24 Meet The Cast!

Meet the Cast:
Victor

Victor is one of our two male lipsynchers in the band. The reason behind choosing Victor is he has a very individual style that could easily influence the viewers of the video. We are keen on having his own influence on his costume so that he is dressed slightly differently than the others (we intend to have the others dressed a lot more mainstream). This would give Victor a signifier and something his 'fans' could identify him as in the band. We also chose Victor because he has a background of lipsynching (Edinburgh Fringe 2014) and is a very able actor. He also has a large personality that will fit perfectly into the stereotypical fun boy band member. He plays guitar too so his instrument playing will look believable.

Michael

Michael is the guitarist in which the love story is concerned. The reason we chose Michael is that he has featured in previous years music videos which means that he has experience. As well as this he is very confident so he should have no problem with acting along side the opposite gender. He has the boy band look that we are trying to achieve and a good fashion style. He is also a guitarist which will mean that the playing shots will look more realistic.

David

David is the other lipsyncher as well as Victor. The reason behind choosing David is that he also has the look too. He is a musician so this means that in the music scenes he will be able to play believable. He is also a keen actor with lots of acting experience so he will have no problem with the amount of acting we are expecting him to do. As well as his acting, he has a lot of confidence for the boy band front man. His friendship with Victor will also mean that they can double act really well together.

Lizzie

Lizzie will be playing our female love interest. The reasons behind choosing lizzie are the following; She has a lot of experience with acting so we know that she is a capable actor. She has been in several productions where she has had to be the love interest which means she is aware of what we will be expecting of her. She is an attractive girl with a style both edgy and casual. Therefore there will be no disagreements about dressing her up in edgy clothing. She is also very good to work with and a friendly, likeable character.

#23 Location Planning

We are planning to use three main locations, the Tennant Room (music recital room), the Orchestra Room (with lights) and a classroom. Below is the e-mails asking and granting permission for these locations to be used.

For the tennant room and studio...

And for the orchestra room (where the end gig will be held)...

#19 Story Plan

We have big ambitions for our video! Here is our main idea...
The music video starts following a girl as she walks an after school detention classroom. All of the boys in the band have been given detention for messing around and singing loudly in class. As two of the boys get on with their work, the other nods off in the back of the classroom. In walks the beautiful looking girl wearing alternative clothing (band merchandise) and very thick eyeliner. The teacher hands her some paper and then sits down. The boys wake up the other one (Michael*) to point her out, he stares at her beauty. The girl takes out her headphones and starts listening to music whilst staring out of the window. The boys decide they have had enough of detention and knock the desk over and run out, sending paper flying everywhere, leaving her startled.
Scenes of them playing music will surface throughout a long with several situations where the two boys make fun of the other about liking the girl. Cross cutting then occurs between the scene of the boys playing music and the girl walking in the park and sitting by the tree (possibly writing). The boys end up being in the same park handing out leaflets to their own show, they spot her and push Michael* in her direction with leaflets. They then leave so he's left on his own. He decides to walk over to her and sits by her, she looks up and smiles, they have a moment. He hands her the leaflet and she nods her head.
More cross cutting involving the band playing and cute moments involving the couple:
The boys are rehearsing, she is walking outside about to put her headphones in and hears them so she peers through the window, smiles to herself and keeps walking. Cross cut again to them playing.
He sees her walking in the School the next day, catches up to her and talks to her. Gives her a note, tells her to meet him in the rehearsal room after school. Michael teaches her to play piano, they are sitting together at the piano smiling and laughing as he teaches her a small tune. He puts her hair behind her ear.
The boys have their first gig and Michael looks towards the audience and he doesn't see her, is disheartened. At the end of their show, they are clearing things away and he sees her in the wings holding his leaflet and their sheet music. He runs to her and gives her a hug.
He leans in to kiss her, realises the other two have been watching the whole time, leans in and covers their face with sheet music.

#18 Key Elements of a Pop Video and Theorists

Pop videos have to contain several key elements, each of which is vital to engage the target audience, and the people that will actually be listening to the music .

Colour!
All popular pop music videos have use of very bright colours, and it makes it more visually pleasing. It also grabs the attention, so if there is an advert, it would instantly grab attention, and make people want to see the full video.

Costume!
The costume is often just high street clothing, or something that is currently in fashion, so the latest craze in t-shirts and jeans, and hair style! Quite often there is school uniform involved, making the band/singer appear younger, therefore more appealing to a teenage audience.

Cuts that fit with the music.
In pop videos, there are many different cuts and scene changes that fit with the music, so the shot changes on every xth beat of the song.

A theory that we would conform to is Andrew Goodwin's 'The Conventions of Music Videos', where music videos match the music, i.e. a relationship between the visuals, either amplifying or illustrating the lyrics. We aim to do this by making the boys in the band 'want to be a rockstar' - as the lyrics say they want to be. We will also have images that match the lyrics, e.g. for the line' there's a boy thinking of her', show a shot of a boy thinking with quick cuts to the girl he's thinking of!

Another theory we will use as a Walter Lippmann's stereotype theory. We will use stereotypes of certain images to help us think up costumes, as we want our boy band to look like a stereotypical boy band, not only with what they wear, but with the way they act as well.

#17 Possible institutions to show our video

There are several possible institutions that could produce and exhibit our video.

YouTube would possibly be my choice, as it is free to exhibit videos, and also one of the most popular websites on the web.
A lot of music videos are judged by popularity on youtube, by the amount of views, and there is often competition amongst artists to try to get the new record of 'so many views in a certain amount of time'. Also a lot of teenagers spend a lot of time flicking through videos on youtube, to find the next big thing.

4music is a popular music channel for freeview users, as they don't have access to MTV. This music channel shows all the music in the charts, as well as new releases, 'old' songs' and videos, and some TV programmes, such as 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians'. It also shows music game shows, run by the channel, which are popular amongst its main teenage audience. If 4music exhibited our video, I believe it would certainly boost the popularity.
4music also occasionally helps to produce videos, which would certainly be a bonus, however, the channel is only really known in the UK, not in the USA, which is a key area to break into in the music industry.

SYCO is a record label, owned by Simon Cowell. This is the label 'One Direction' were originally signed to after 'The X Factor'. This may be a good label to look into for help in production and exhibition, as it has produced one of the biggest boy bands, with the biggest fan base, full of teenage fan girls! The label opened in 2002, and is good for distribution in both the UK and Stateside!
